Where do you draw the line on how deep you want things to go in a game?
If we take this here fancy axe, is it enough to throw some stats on it, plop a made-up quote in its item description and call it a day? Should it have a history? Maybe it was crafted by a master blacksmith long ago, whose whereabouts are certainly unknown for dramatic effect.
Do we talk about where the blacksmith got the source materials? Was the blade forged in the fires of Mount… Gloom?
Maybe we can tie a quest to the weapon, where you have to find the blacksmith to get it repaired and unleash its true potential. Now we’re in quest chain territory and things may just be getting interesting… or out of hand.
